A couple of covers I whipped up for some of my favourite BBC Radio1 Essential Mixes. Can’t go wrong with some Helvetica and a nice/random photo found on stolen from Tumblr (sorry). You can see more of my (RE)COVERED project here.
I love these sort of dj sets that manage to mix various genres together - in particular old school dance, disco and pop - rather than just playing whatever is currently trending. If anyone has any good suggestions, Essential Mix or not, I’d love to hear them!
Another (RE)COVERED design. This one is for the lead single off of the best musical release in recent years imho. Seriously this album is amazing.
Anyways this design takes heavy inspiration from this awesome Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings poster by Scott Campbell. The look is probably a lot more vintage than the vibe of the album, but I wanted to illustrate a crazy alternate reality where Daft Punk and Pharrell travel way back in time to introduce brand new musical sounds from the future!
Here’s another one in my (RE)COVERED on-going series. I fricking love N*E*R*D and this song and it’s remix by DFA is one my favs.
Lykke Li’s “I Follow Rivers (The Magician Remix)” (RE)COVERED.
A new piece for my (RE)COVERD series. This set is quite old now (December 2007) but if you haven’t heard it before I strongly recommend hunting it down online. It is one of the craziest/weirdest/coolest dj sets I’ve ever heard, and it is still one of my favourites. Look at how diverse the list of artists is! Anyways for this cover I just wanted to have fun and decided to make a retro Christmas album style cover.
Going to start covering (or in some cases re-covering) some of the albums in my iTunes library as a form of design exercise. As I’ve mentioned in the past I’m quite partial to a sexy tall and skinny sans serif type. Also, designing for a newsprint music magazine and having spent much time working and studying pre-press I’ve taken a liking to halftone patterns which has led me to experimenting with bitmap images and the nice patterns they make. This cover is just a simple mix of those elements. In future I’ll be aiming to try out some new things I normally wouldn’t do!
If you’ve got a soft spot for classic pop, rock, disco, dance, funk and soul go ahead and check out this awesome set by french dj Breakbot here. And why is ol’ Rocky Balboa on the cover you ask? Well, just have a listen and find out!
Revised cover design. I think this fits the mood of the album a lot better than my original design. Higher res version for your iTunes libraries available here.
